Sunday 6th June 2010 The Central Band of the Royal British Legion – our 49th military band concert – Winter Gardens, Margate. Our spring military band concert this year with The Central Band of the Royal British Legion and their effervescent Director of Music, Captain David Cole formerly of the Royal Marines Band Portsmouth and HMY Britannia. After their previous performances in the Winter Gardens, we have never had so many letters, emails, telephone calls and cards from concert-goers all saying how much they enjoyed that concert and how they wanted the band to return as soon as possible. Therefore your wish has been granted; they’re back! Reservations are being taken now (pay later). Performance at 7:30 p.m. Tickets £10.00 – £11.00 – £12.00 from Cinque Port Music. Telephone 01304 829656.

OTHER DATES YOU MAY BE INTERESTED IN *** FREE ***
Sunday 11th July 2010 — Royal Marines Band *** FREE *** The Royal Marines Band Portsmouth appear on the Deal Memorial Bandstand for their annual open air concert. Over 10,000 people attend this concert which starts at 2pm so we advise people to come early as close parking is restricted and seating limited. We therefore advise bringing your own seating or even a blanket, and a picnic to enter into the true spirit of the day. The concert will include a re-dedication service in memory of the eleven Royal Marines musicians who were murdered by the IRA on 29th September 1989 in whose memory the bandstand was built.
Sunday 8th August 2010 — The Old Comrades Band *** FREE ***
2005 saw the inaugural concert by this band of Ex Royal Marines musicians who still live in Deal. The original idea of this band was conceived by the author of this web site Stephen Misson, the former Public Relations Officer of the Deal Memorial Bandstand Trust, who put together this scratch band. The band was, and will be in future years, conducted by former Corps Bandmaster Phil Hughes and the programmes are of the type we all played in the bygone days when we were all much younger. Just to make these concerts really interesting, they were originally presented TOTALLY WITHOUT REHEARSALS. So successful have been the previous three concerts (it was originally supposed to be a one-off!) that we have decided to make it an annual occasion — this was to be quite evident when 2,500 people turned up to witness our playing. The band also thoroughly enjoy the concerts, as is evident in their playing. Come and see if we can again pull off this stunt; see if we can still do the job as the Royal Marines trained us all those years ago! Should be interesting to say the least.
The Deal Memorial Bandstand Trust is a registered charity whose aim is to honour the memory of our fallen comrades and to keep music live on Walmer Green. Concerts are held every Sunday afternoon at 2:30pm from May to September with a variety of military and brass bands. Other ensembles such as swing bands are also featured.
